Future Pathways Expo

Moncton High will be hosting its first ‘Moncton High School Future Pathways Expo‘ on November 5th for grades 10-12 only.   

  • Students will be able to interact with industry leaders, as well as academic training program to support their career life plan requirements from EECD.  
  • This is a full day event at the school for students with exhibitor booths, and breakout sessions during period 1-4.
    • Grade 9 students do not attend school on November 5th as they are either at a work placement, or at home online modules for Take Our Kids to Work Day. 

Students will be choosing 4 breakout sessions to attend during the event this week in homeroom.  Please look at the sessions that will be offered to support your selections on Tuesday. 

Breakout Sessions Descriptions for 2025.  

New Brunswick Community College (NBCC): 

NBCC’s breakout session will explore the diverse academic programs, student support services, and career opportunities that NBCC offers. This session is designed for prospective students, educators, and anyone interested in learning more about how NBCC prepares students for success in both academic and professional pursuits. 

During this session, we will discuss: 

  • An overview of NBCC’s programs and career pathways 
  • Admission requirements and the application process 
  • Student support services, including academic advising, career counseling, and financial aid 
  • How NBCC’s hands-on learning approach and industry partnerships help students gain practical skills for the workforce 

Ready Arc Training & Testing: 

  • Careers in Welding with Ready Arc Training & Testing:  
  • Thinking about your future career? Welding offers opportunities that reach far beyond the classroom—across industries, across Canada, and even around the world. In this session, you’ll learn about the different career pathways available in the welding trade and an overview of the kind of high-demand work welders do. 
  • We’ll also give you a look at Ready Arc’s 6-month intensive welding program in Saint John, and how it helps graduates get a head start with the skills and certifications that industry and unions are looking for. Come see why welding is one of the most versatile and rewarding trades you can choose. 

St. Thomas University  

  • St. Thomas University is located in Fredericton and is a small, primarily undergraduate institution that focuses on the Bachelor of Arts, specifically in social sciences and humanities. This includes programs such as Criminology and Criminal Justice, Psychology, Human Rights, Aviation, Business, and Social Entrepreneurship, among others. We also offer a Bachelor of Social Work, Bachelor of Education and Masters in Social Work. Join us for a presentation where you will be learning more about what STU has to offer! 

Geodesy and Geomatics Engineering

Horizon School of Radiography Moncton 

  • The Horizon School of Radiography Moncton Campus is partnered with UNBSJ to deliver a 4-year BHS in Radiography.  Students in the program complete 2 years at UNBSJ then 2 years at The Horizon School of Radiography Moncton Campus. Graduates of the program become a radiological (x-ray) technologist.  
  • Applicants begin by entering the Bachelor of Health Sciences at UNBSJ. To apply: http://www.unb.ca/admissions/applying-to-unb/index.html 
  • During Year 1 students apply to the Horizon School of Radiography; this is a competitive major and involves an interview process.  
  • Students accepted into the Horizon School of Radiography Moncton Campus complete 3 additional years of education and training.
  •  The work of the Radiologic Technologist covers a broad variety of procedures such as  x-rays of the chest, spine, bones, and joints; gastrointestinal studies; fluoroscopy (real-time imaging), mammography, CT scans, and Interventional Radiology.

  • The Pathway to Medicine – Becoming a physician in New Brunswick: This session will outline the route taken by most New Brunswick physicians. It will break down medical seats, residency programs and career opportunities in NB.

  • Skilled Trades NB supports apprenticeship and certification in over 50 trades, connecting New Brunswickers with rewarding careers and helping build a strong, skilled workforce for the future. 

Oulton College 

  • Join Oulton College for an engaging overview of our programs and campus experience! In this session, we’ll introduce students to the variety of programs we offer across Health Sciences, Business, Information Technology, and Human Services. We’ll highlight programs that align with student interests and career goals, share insights into campus life, and provide guidance on pathways to success after graduation. This is a great opportunity for students to explore what Oulton College has to offer and learn how our programs can help them achieve their future ambitions. 

ArtsLink NB 

  • A short presentation of career opportunities in the arts and a few skills you’d need to get to those careers 

University of Prince Edward Island 

  • Will provide an overview of UPEI, including programs, campus life, campus supports, and how to apply! 

New Brunswick College of Craft and Design (NBCCD) 

  • For our breakout session we will be doing a short presentation about the programs that we offer, and a Graphic Design “Mixed-Media Self Portrait” workshop. During this workshop students will be using magazine clippings, construction paper, and markers, students create an abstract self-portrait they can take home with them. Typography, the elements of style and design, and the world of visual communication and graphic design will be explored before students dive into their own project.  

NavCanada 

  • We can do a short presentation on the career options at NavCanada, both locally and Nationally 

Working NB 

  • Deciding what to do after graduation can be difficult. In the session you will learn about the services Working NB offers and how they may assist you in determining the next steps following graduation. We will discuss Career vs. Job and steps you can take now to help the transition to life after graduation a little easier. Be prepared to engage in discussion and actively participate.

MFC Training – Moncton Flight College

Mount Saint Vincent University 

  • Our presentation will have a focus on MSVU’s campus and student life, with the focal point being on our Undergraduate programs and education pathways we offer. We will touch on scholarship opportunities, residence options, athletics programs, student societies and program research opportunities.  

Air Canada 

  • We are aware that many young people may not consider aviation, and especially a pilot-career as an option for them. The reasons are multi-fold, but if it is a lack of awareness about the opportunities that are available, we would like to do our part to close that knowledge gap. 
  • Isabelle is a pilot employed at Air Canada. Maya is a student at MFC and associated with the Elevate Aviation group that promotes women in aviation.  Isabelle and Maya are excellent pilot role-models for kids. Isabelle would be in uniform and describe her journey to becoming a professional pilot with Air Canada. Maya will be able to talk about her experience as a student pilot at the Moncton Flight College (MFC) and both would of course answer any questions the kids may have. 

East Coast Trades College 

  • East Coast Trades College focuses on hands-on learning in the vocational trades sector, offering a diverse range of trade programs. This private institution emphasizes the development of practical, real-world skills crucial for students to succeed in their chosen trades. Through industry partnerships, East Coast Trades College provides students with essential hands-on experience three days a week, balancing this with two days of classroom instruction per week. This immersive approach enriches their skill set, preparing them to excel in the fast-paced and competitive trades industry.  

Riverview Animal Health Centre – Careers in Veterinary Medicine 

  • Join us for an inside look at the world of veterinary care, hosted by a Registered Veterinary Technician and (hopefully!) a veterinarian. This session will explore the diverse career pathways available in veterinary medicine — from emergency and general practice to surgery, diagnostics, and client care. 
  • Students will learn what a typical day looks like for veterinary professionals, the education and training required to enter the field, and the skills that make a great team member in animal healthcare. We’ll also share real-life stories, answer questions, and highlight the rewarding — and sometimes challenging — aspects of working with animals. 
  • Whether you’re curious about becoming a vet, a technician, or simply want to know more about the field, this session is a great opportunity to explore what it’s really like behind the scenes. 

Crandall University 

  • We want to share about future possibilities and opportunities for students considering Crandall as a post-secondary option. We will cover academic programs, admissions requirements, application process, and aspects of student-life. 

Irving Oil 

  • Fueling Futures – Skilled Trades and Technology at Irving Oil 
  • In this session, you’ll get a behind-the-scenes look at how skilled trades and technology keep the Irving Oil refinery, in Saint John, running safely and efficiently. From pipefitters and boilermakers to instrumentation technicians and operators, you’ll discover how hands-on skills, problem-solving, and innovation come together in Canada’s largest refinery. 

Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists – Atlantic 

  • The Wonderful World of Medical Radiation Technology – a session guiding students to the amazing medical radiation technology profession! In this session, students will learn about the four pathways in the procession: Radiologic Technology, Nuclear Medicine, MRI and Radiation Therapy. In this session there will be a description of the pathways, a demo on some of the images one will see and a fun interactive section where the student becomes the technologist and analyzes the images! 

New Brunswick Teen Apprenticeship Program 

  • This session will provide an introduction to how NBTAP can help high school students start a career in the Skilled Trades.
